Enjoy the Belize River, with your choice of transportation. We have a motor boat, canoes and inner tubes. We offer guided or unguided rides.
The Belize River is a navigable river from San Ignacio to the ocean. Howler and Spider monkeys like to hang out in the trees near the river and are often spotted on the river rides. Birds, iguanas, and other wildlife life along the river.
Jungle Nature Hikes, Birdwatching, Wildlife Viewing
Explore the 80 acre jungle sub-tropical rainforest on our nature trails. We have a natural spring and creek that runs through the property. The property has beautiful flowers, tall jungle canopy trees, tropical fruit, howler monkeys, keel billed toucans and many other birds, deer, iguanas, Tayra, gibnut, Indian rabbits, tapir and many more beautiful jungle creatures.
The jungle is a birders paradise. We have toucans, parrots, hummingbirds, and hundreds of beautiful tropical birds on the property.
The reserve also has several Mayan ruins that have not been excavated.
Fishing
The Belize River has delicious river fish. Fishing is available from canoe or boat, guided or unguided. We also have guides who can take you out on a night canoe fishing trip, just the way the locals fish.
La Ruta Maya - Belize River Challenge - Early March
The La Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge comes right by the Chaya Maya riverfront on the first day of the annual canoe race. The race is a 4 day race, with teams of canoes. They start in San Ignacio and finish at the ocean. If you are here in early March, we have a front row seat on our riverside bar to watch the racers.
